Poetry: 1000 Promises
A Constant night Sky
Filled with many stars
Stars which seem to call out to you
Dreams and Hopes, those stars are
Can you reach any of them?
As time passes
Some stars change
Some stars remain the same
And some disappear altogether
Can you reach at least one?
Before they all disappear
Even though everything we know eventually changes
This does not mean we must change with them
The ability to be unchanged, I wonder
Can one truly do such a thing?
“Evenif those words you promised me can’t be made true
The lives we live are, without a doubt, or ever apart
So for a time I shall leave, to find myself
Please don’t look down on me
For this is something I must do”
Promises made, should be vows unbroken
I will keep my word
For without it I’d have nothing else
Untill that promised time, which has yet to arrive
I shall do my best to remain unchanged
The Lights up in the night sky, which we can never reach
Reside high above our heads
All we do is stretch our hands out towards it
So don’t be afraid of your past
For the pains of yesterday can never reach you
There are two of us , seperated by a river grand
Our paths run parallel, with the river in between
We are forever separated, unable to do a thing
So there we stand on opposite coasts, just to see each other
“In this never ending night
We linger, longing for each other
The unchanging full moon promises us our means to communicate
The uncertain future, can we see it?
Or are we blinded by our wish for the stars?”
The days pass by, but it always seems to be night
For it is the only time we can see each other
The stars above, shining brightly, disappear, one by one
Can we not change the future?
That certain star we long for, may not remain
The river which separates us
Cannot be crossed, for its current would certainly end us
Perhaps someday we will reach our goal
As unlikely as it may be
I promise you, I will continue to hope for it
The full moon returns
With it, a few days where we may converse
For the “wind” during it carries our voices, unchanged
So please listen closely to this “wind”
“A promise I make to you, tonight
Whatever may happen in tomorrows wake
my feelings for you shall not diminish
Someday, Somehow, I know we will be able to see each other oncemore
As we did those days long past”
This separation cannot last forever
I believe this to be true
For someday our paths, without a doubt, shall cross
This much I know, for I feel itin my heart
The hopes and dreams of others may fade
But ours, may only get stronger
Overtime a bridge was constructed
But as it grew close to completion, it was abandoned
So now an incomplete bridge is left behind
Now, every night we stand upon it, but still, there is a gap between us
We are so close to each other, but still, faraway
Our hands are still unable to meet
“We’ve made it this far now,
So please don’t be sad
Someday, Somehow, I promise you
We will be together
As long as our star continues to shine
Hope cannot be lost”
“You say those things with tears in your eyes
Please don’t cry, it is as you said
‘Someday, Somehow, we will be together’”
Everyday I wish that I would grow wings
So that I could fly to the other side
Just so I could be with you
Then together, I’d fly you to that shining star
Towards our hopes and dreams
“Then one full moon arrived
One that I cannot forget
‘Even if those words you promised me can’t be made true
The lives we live are without a doubt, forever apart
So for a time I shall leave, to find myself
Please don’t look down on me
For this is something I must do
So for now, goodbye
I leave you now with the promise of my return’
That is what you said to me
So I hope, next I see you, you will have what you searched for”
Now it has been 900 lonely nights since that time
We only have each others words to remember each other by
So every night, I stare at that star
And I know that our hope is still alive
The star which shines ever so brightly
Is the only thing that keeps us going
I must find this person who is me
Before our paths can cross
But I must return
Before the Thousandth Night comes to an end
And so… I journey back
“It is the uncertain future
Which we shall always head to
there is no changing that fact
Please keep me always in your heart
Show me that this path we take is right”
Can I say that I am unchanged?
No, neither of us are
That star that we share in the sky
It has started to fade
I wonder, will it disappear?
No, it must not
For there are many promises yet to be fulfilled
The place I return to, is nothing like what I remember
It is the 1000th night
I have returned
“Days pass by, but it always seems to be night
The moon goes through its cycle, as always
The stars shining brightly disappeared, one by one
Can we not ch”nge the future?
That star we long for… May not reamin…
The river which seperates us
Cannot be crossed, for its current would certainly end us
Perhaps someday we will reach our goal
As unlikely as it may be
I will always hope for it
The full moon returns
And I can converse with you
So please listen closely to the wind
For it carries my fragile words…
Farewell…”
*1000 Promises*
Tears…
A Promise Made, A Promise Broken
Saddness…
A Promise Made, A Promise Broken
A separation…
The disappearance of a star
In the separation they embraced
In the separation they were together
A Promise kept…
“In the promise of the uncertain tomorrow
What can we do?
Everything changes
Never lose sight of the dream
Because if you do…
Perhaps, Everything Disappears”

A poem shrouded in symbolism. In it symbols can be both figurative and literal. The way it is written can, and can not be in chronological order. The quotations show the lovers speech to each other, in the order of: Male, Female, etc. The words without quotations belong to either one of them, and sometimes both. Decipher it anyway you like.
Written to rival the Chaotic Atmosphere in “A Blissful Paroxysm”, with a Romantic One. But not at all, a continuation or response to. I hope you Enjoy it.
It is wonderfully written in the sense of the story it tells, and in the sense that it is melodic and pleasant to read. But–if I may be so bold–as a reader, not a critic of the art, I find it much too long. I hope you don’t mind my saying so.

Thank You for the compliments. And I mind not that you find it much too long. After all everyone is entitled to their own opinion, right? ^^

I loved the way you crafted this write, it expresses a linear quality of lucidity though it can be taken in several different ways. Very cool

Dreams, hopes and promises – these are what we look forward to in life.
As we change and move forward, sometimes our dreams are shrouded behind the clouds and we wonder if we are still on the right path. Keep the goal in sight at all times, else we will also lose the meaning in life.
Thanks for sharing and providing an inspiration to all :)

I personally like this poem coz I can relate to it. Promises are very important and should be kept. People count on your words so don’t promise something you can’t do coz your words might be the only hope for other people.

Beautiful poetry. You’ve really captured how deeply our feelings automatically want to embolden relationship, and how profound it is!
